Chris Christie Shows Us What Politicians Are Really All About

laucar

I’ve been following the American elections quite closely recently and I’ve got to confess that it has become quite a spectacle.

With so many significantly flawed candidates (Trump being sued in 2 class action law suites and another filed by the Attorney General of the State of New York each alleging “FRAUD” on the part of the leading Republican candidate, Clinton about to be indicted over the private server/email fiasco, Rubio with such a checkered past, Cruz so vehemently hated by everyone in the Republican Party establishment for his Tea Party roots and Sanders the “socialist” ) I guess you can say that the carnival act that has become the American election process is not what it was ever designed to be.

Apparently everyone is looking for a non-Washington type, an “outsider“.

So, I thought that today I should look at the conventional, proven political political players and Chris Christy just gave us all an excellent case study in what American politicians really are made of.

Christy is a known Republican heavy weight!  He is Governor of the State of New Jersey and came at this presidential campaign saying one thing while doing another (apparently).

I thought it might prove interesting, if not informative, to take a look at how he defined the man that he just endorsed to lead the party into the Presidential election.

During the “bridgegate” fiasco I stood with the guy, and was generally impressed with his articulation skills and perceived sincerity.

I say “perceived” because his concession speech last Friday showed the true picture of the man.

They always say that if some lives by the edict “do as I say not as I do” they are doomed to fail, and apparently, fail he did.

Before he gave up the chase to become President himself, he had lots to say about Donald Trump.

Here’s a brief reboot:

Just last month Christie slammed Trump for boycotting the Fox News Presidential Debate.  Christie announced that “Trump was acting like a 13-year-old.”  He emphasized that Trump’s reaction to Fox News’ coverage of him said a lot about the kind of president he would be.

What’s that tell you about what we can expect if things go sideways when you go into the Oval Office? What are you going to do? Just go upstairs to the residence and say I’m not playing?” he asked. “You know, Vladimir Putin isn’t being nice to me, I’m not going to return his phone call? The press isn’t being nice to me, I’m not going to hold any more press conferences?

So, in under a month before he endorses Donald Trump, (with a speech so over saturated with praise and admiration that I started to feel ill) he was telling the world that “Donald Trump was too immature to be President“.

He had repeatedly emphasized that “Trump’s border wall plan makes no sense

Christie dismissed Trump’s ridiculous  assurances that he would make the Mexican government pay for a wall along the entire United States’ southern border.

This makes no sense. I’ve met [Mexican] President Nieto a number of times. I don’t think if we present him with a bill he’s going to pay for it,” Christie said on CNN. “This is not negotiation of a real estate deal, OK? This is international diplomacy, and it’s different.

He went on to tell everyone that would listen that “Trump doesn’t have the necessary experience

During a town hall in New Hampshire last month, Christie pointed out that Trump has no experience in politics.

I tell everybody who goes to a Donald Trump event, if you get to ask a question, just ask him ‘how?’” Christie said. “I don’t care which of the things he talks about just ask him, ‘How?

I can answer ‘how?’ because I’ve done it,” he continued, adding, “that’s the difference between a governor and Donald Trump”.

He went on to say that “Trump is painfully naive about Syrian policy” (Trump earlier had said on a talk show that “he gets his expertise on foreign affairs from the Sunday morning talk shows)“!

In October, the New Jersey governor said that “Trump’s thoughts on U.S. policy regarding Syria were painfully naive.”

Christy also Criticized Trump For “not correcting a man who, at one of his rallies said ‘Obama is Muslim’

Some Trump supporter in the audience at a Trump event said that President Obama is a Muslim and that Muslims are a “problem in this country.”

I wouldn’t have permitted that,” Christie said in September. “If someone brought that up at a town hall of mine, I would have said ‘Before we answer, let’s clear some things up for the rest of the audience,’ and I think you have an obligation as a leader to do that.

He also criticized Trump for mocking people with disabilities

He shouldn’t be making fun of people with disabilities,” Christie said. “It’s just not worthy of someone running for the president of the United States.”

He’s got to answer for himself,” he continued. “he said what’s he’s said, and now the people who vote will have to judge him. In the context of Donald, outrageous is a high bar.

In New Hampshire just last month, Christie called Trump a “a carnival barker” .  .  .  .   Showtime is over. We are not electing an entertainer-in-chief. Showmanship is fun, but it is not the kind of leadership that will truly change America“.

And Christie has said repeatedly that “Trump’s proposed Muslim ban was ridiculous.  He bashed Trump’s proposal to ban Muslims as “the kind of thing that people say when they have no experience and don’t know what they’re talking about.”

We do not need to endorse that type of activity, nor should we,” Christie said. “You do not need to be banning Muslims from the country. That’s, in my view, that’s a ridiculous position and one that won’t even be productive”.

Christie also told Boston Herald Radio that “Trump’s decision to skip the Fox debate showed that the real estate mogul is “thin-skinned.  I think it just makes people call into question his judgment”.

So, on Friday, after dropping out of the race following all of the above referenced character assassinations, what does any successful politician do?

Of course, he does a complete about face and endorses Donald Trump for President.

I would like to ask Governor Christie is he was lying when he made all of these claims and allegations about and against Donald Trump, or what has Donald Trump done to satisfy his allegedly “serious concerns” on these issues.

I’m anticipating an announcement that Donald Trump is offering Chris Christie the Vice President job.

After all, isn’t this what politics in America is really all about?

He fooled me up until his endorsement.  He actually had me thinking that he was the most qualified person.

I know from having spent so many winters in Florida that that if I were an American I would be a Democrat or an Independent as Republican’s truly are a stand-out, unique breed!

The Democrats are facing the same kind of conundrum in that Hillary Clinton brings some serious baggage that is yet to be addressed and American’s fume at the word “socialist” so Sanders really holds very little chance of succeeding.

It appears that America is offering up no legitimate answer for the question of who should take over for Obama.

So, according to Chris Christie,  . . . . .  an immature, thin-skinned, painfully naive thirteen year old carnival barker with questionable judgement and ridiculous ideas and who ridicules the disabled publicly, and who is lacking the necessary experience, ideas that makes no sense, should now, (just a couple weeks later) somehow be qualified to become President of the United States of America.

Now that, ladies and gentlemen, is really what American politics is all about.

I’m Charles
